School Nutrition Assistant
This is an ever-changing, fast-paced environment that requires a service oriented attitude with heavy lifting, dish washing, cleaning, cooking, and great customer service skills.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in food preparation and serving practices preferred
Skills and Knowledge required:
- Ability to read and comprehend recipes and directions for use of equipment
- Ability to follow computer-based training instructions
- Ability to operate automated cash collection point of service
- Working knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
- Manual skills for cleaning and sanitizing food preparation equipment
- Ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships
- Mechanical skills to safely operate kitchen equipment
- Planning skills to forecast batch cooking
Performance Responsibilities:
- Reads recipes and directions for the number of meals to be served
- Calculates amount of ingredients for number of portions to be served
- Measures and mixes ingredients
- Portions product into prescribed serving size
- Cleans kitchen, utensils, cookware
- Performs individual and team duties
- Manages serving line efficiently
- Provided courteous customer service to students and other staff members
- Completion of required USDA training upon start date and each year
- Other duties assigned by manager
Physical Requirements: • Work involves sustained standing and frequent lifting, bending, and pulling • Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently • Frequent movement at a fast pace
Training Required: • USDA requires all employees that work in Child Nutrition to complete a specified number of hours of training / continuing education each year. • Food Safety Training required within to be completed within the first week of employment.
